Growing up in Phoenix, I was exposed to many Native American images and objects. I was particularly drawn to the Hopi Kachina Doll sculpture which could be found everywhere. Black Ogre refers to a specific Kachina usually bearing horns and wearing dark clothing. While In North Carolina, I was also exposed to Southeastern folk art and the wood and bottles refer to that tradition. The surface has been sprayed with rubber and the horn is formed from wax.
