My aim with the Rembrandt Self-Portrait series (2009-10) was to discover a new interpretation of Rembrandt's well known portraits. Rembrandt used his self-portraits to tell his life story through careful self examination. I have tried to extend his story by portraying the subject's fool heartiness and vulnerability mixed with my own psychological expressions such as lonliness, self-doubt, and isolation. Often the subject is obsessively smoking cigarettes while stairing straight out at the viewer wearing various costumes and hats that Rembrandt wore.
